A quite Monday

 Hey there, stranger.

Yesterday was a nice and relax Monday for me, and I wish all Mondays could be like this. We woke up around half-past eight, had coffee, bacon and eggs on the bed and chill for a while before we started tidying up the house and running a couple of laundries. While Thijs went to the supermarket, I finished organizing the house and then we went for a little walk under the rain and a nice coffee.

The gate with the arms of Bardes dates from the beginning of the 17th century

We walked to De Heeren van Sonoy, a charming place with a big courtyard close to our flat in Alkmaar which has the status of a national monument.

It used to be the Witte Hof or Sint Maria Magdalena Monastery. The monastery came into the hands of the city in 1572 and the place was then used to house city dwellers who had become homeless because their houses had been demolished for the construction of the new city defences. After the siege, it was sold to Diederik Sonoy, governor of the Noorderkwartier, who lived here for several years and whose name is linked to the victory over the Spaniards in 1573.

The next owner was Mr Willem van Bardes, who had the former monastery converted into a spacious housing and also expanded the building with the striking octagonal watchtower.

In the 18th century, the building was decorated as a "diaconia Old Men and Women house". Subsequently, the building was split up in 1978 and received its current layout with various shops, houses and the Restaurant De Heeren van Sonoy. The entire complex is called Hof van Sonoy.

And that's for today's history lesson, kids.

It was still raining outside, so we run the last errands we needed for that day and came back home to start planning our holidays by the end of May. We may do a little tour around the country and maybe some places close to the border with Germany and Belgium, any suggestions of things that you think I've should see? So far we've got a big list, but it's always good to receive any advise!

It's funny how thanks to Emily Temple Cute I started wearing lots of sweet colours with lolita, even some prints I never thought I would wear, like this print. I'm not a huge fan of "toy stuff" prints, but the Bear Jar print is so quirky that it was love at first sight. I mean, it's a print with cookies and honey jars in the shape of vintage crazy bears and cream milk bottles, what the actual fuck hahaha!

  1. This quirky, otome look that Emily Temple Cute pieces have is so cute and you really rock it. It may be sweeter than what you'd pick from other brands, but suits you just as much!
